Overview: The Alaskan Klee Kai is a Spitz breed from the north. It was created to be a companion sized Alaskan Husky. Usually cautious around strangers which makes this breed an efficient watchdog. It doesn't usually play nice with other animals that are smaller than this dog.

Temperament: This breed is very intelligent and prone to run and play. Because of its drive to hunt it doesn't do well around small animals unless raised with them as it will hunt and even kill them. While often good around children, if bullied it will respond by nipping.  
History: In the mid-1970s, Linda S Spurlin was looking at the result of a mix between an Alaskan Husky and some small dog that she didn't get to see. She continued to mix the breed with Siberian Husky's, Alaskan Husky's, Schipperke, and American Eskimo Dogs to make the breed even smaller without making it a dwarf. This was all done in private at her home in Wasilla, Alaska until the late 1980s when she started to show them to the public. At first it was known as the Klee Kai and was soon split into the Alaskan Klee Kai as well as the Klee Kai for political reasons. In the early 21st century the breed was known as just the Alaskan Klee Kai. 
Names: There is no other name the Alaskan Klee Kai is known by.

Groups: There are several different sizes the Alaskan Klee Kai comes in. There are Toy, Miniature, and Standard sizes.

Physical Characteristics: Each Alaskan Klee Kai is separated by size. The Toy is up to 13 inches, Miniature is between 13 and 15, and the Standard is between 15 and 17 inches. The basic characteristics of this breed should resemble a small Alaskan Husky, however the standard is based around the Siberian Husky. The muzzle should be shorter, ears should be larger, the tail set higher than the Siberian Husky.
