Overview: The Miniature Bull Terrier has a large amount of energy and absolutely loves to play. While it doesn't get along well with other dogs, it doesn't mind having other non-canine pets around and seems to like having strangers around. This dog is not easy to train but it does make an excellent watchdog and has a good protection abilities. The Miniature Bull Terrier needs little grooming and can resist both the heat and the cold very well.

Temperament: The Miniature Bull Terrier is excitable, playful, and mischievous. Even though it is small, it is not considered a lap dog. It is loyal to its owner. Training can be difficult, but with patience and a loving approach it can be trained. The Miniature Bull Terrier needs a good amount of exercise and it enjoys digging.

History: First bred in England during the 19th century it comes directly from the Bull Terrier and therefore shares much of its history with them. Some very small Bull Terriers have been known, even so small as to weigh only 4 lb. This small breed was known as the Coverwood Terriers and had little interest with people because of its type. Breeding was done so as to make a larger specimen which led to the Miniature Bull Terrier. The EKC recognized this breed in the mid 20th century however there was a problem in designating it as its own breed. This led to the Miniature Bull Terrier no longer being able to be bred with standard Bull Terriers. With so few Miniature Bull Terriers in existence it was difficult to get the breed in sufficient numbers for breed recognition by the major breed clubs. Fortunately, with increase popularity, by the end of the 20th century the AKC recognized this breed.

Groups: The Miniature Bull Terrier was formally recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1991 and assigned to the Terrier Group.

Physical Characteristics: The average adult Miniature Bull Terrier can be 10 to 14 inches in height and can weigh between 25 to 33 lb. The body should be strongly built and symmetrical in shape. The coat of this dog is short and flat, harsh to the touch. The colors available are white, brindle, black, red, fawn, and tri-colored.

Care: While the exercise regimen for this breed should be daily, it doesn't have to be grueling. A nice walk should suffice. Living outdoors is not advised for the Miniature Bull Terrier and it should live indoors with its owner with access to outside. The coat has minimal care needs.
