Overview: Hailing from the southern part of the State of Georgia, the Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog was bred to be a guard dog and a family friend all in one. It will do well guarding its territory, but it is not aggressive enough to be considered a threat to its friends. It is good around other dogs and pets it has been raised with, and it is good around children. It enjoys being with people and aims to please and entertain. Grooming this dog is simple and not very demanding.

Temperament: This breed is loyal and dutiful to its family no matter the cost. Affectionate and friendly, the Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog makes a fine family dog. It is active and fun loving, accepts training very well and aims to please. In order for this dog to fully understand its role, one must be a pack leader to it, the pack leader being its owner.

History: The results of three generations of an old breeding program resulted in the Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog. This program is known as the PaPa Buck Lane of Rebecca Georgia. The program was started back in the 1800's was made to find and rescue the “plantation dog” that had almost gone extinct in South Georgia. This type of Bulldog is a descendent of Buck Lane's dog, Otto. It was in 1943 that PaPa Buck Lane was killed in an incident involving a train. His dog, Otto, proved to be as loyal as ever by staying over his masters grave and guarding it. Lane's granddaughter took over the program and continued the work until she died in 2001. Unlike its ancestors who were bred for livestock herding, the Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog was bred for guarding and companionship. 

Names: The Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog isn't known by any other name.

Physical Characteristics: The average adult Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog is about 24 inches in height and can weigh between 78 and 100 lb. The head is broad with drooping ears. The coat is short and quite stiff. The body of this dog is sturdy and muscular.

Care: It is best if this breed gets a long walk every day and has playing sessions outside with its master. It may act docile when indoors, however it does have energy it needs to spend and it would be best if there was a yard this dog could utilize on a daily basis. Occasional grooming is needed to remove any dead hairs.
