Overview: The Chorkie is a dog that loves to be with its master whenever it can. It will sleep, play, and exercise along with its master, and also attempt to protect against strangers. It can get along well with other people as long as it knows them. It can also get along well with other dogs and pets if it was raised with them. The Chorkie takes readily to training and should not be spoiled. Temperament: A very excitable and active breed, the Chorkie likes to have fun and goof off with its master. It enjoys taking walks and playing outside, however it can act aggressive toward strangers so it should stay on a leash. It gets along well with people and is good around children. This hybrid breed is intelligent and needs to play games that use its mind to keep it interested and happy. It does well with training and likes to learn new things. History: The only known history of the Chorkie is that it originated around the 1990's. It is not known who first created the breed or for what purpose, but it is known to be a mix between the Chihuahua and Yorkshire Terrier breeds. Often, hybrid breeds such as this fit into a category commonly called Designer Breeds. Names: The Chorkie is also known as the Yorkiechi, Yorkie-chi, Yorkchi, or the York-chi. Physical Characteristics: The average adult Chorkie can weigh between 8 and 15 lb. It is considered a small or a toy breed and resembles a scruffy looking Yorkshire Terrier in many ways. Care: Long walks on a daily basis are good for the Chorkie. It needs a lot of exercise for its size to stay in shape and be happy with where it is living. It would be best if there was a yard it could play in and it should have access to the indoors, even living inside with allowance to be outside during the day. It doesn't do well in the cold and should be kept in warm environments when it can. Chorkies may have allergies to fleas and may develop rashes to different things. |
