Since 1991 we have been breeding, raising, & selling high-quality Labrador Retrievers with NO CLAIMS to date on our THREE year Health Warranty....most breeders only offer 2 years! We have "raised the bar" so high for Labrador Retriever Puppy excellence & genetic superiority, we see no other Labrador Retriever breeders providing the quality we now consider standard. We have sold puppies to many families in the 1990's. Children from these families are beginning their own families - we receive their telephone calls "Are you still raising Labrador Retriever puppies?" We also have many customers returning for their 3rd, 4th or even 5th lab puppy from us!
At Moonlighter Labradors, we try to bring you the best genetics & bloodlines possible. We comb the United States for Labradors with Hunt Test or Field Trial backgrounds - FC/AFC, as we want no “cross-breeding or line breeding".This creates unnecessary genetically-related health problems & added DVM expenses for you. We screen all our adults for any past health issues by DNA registrations,OFA-Hips, PENN-Hips, OFA-Elbows, CERF-Eye clearances, Exercise Induced Collapse (EIC) and Centronuclear Myopathy (CNM). We check all breeding adults as well all past generations. We DO NOT breed any adults unless we have negative findings for EIC, CNM, hip & elbow dysplasia and all other DVM testings. We find good homes for any adults found defective on any of the above & DO NOT BREED them.
Most people think "I'll pay $200-$400 for a cheap Lab puppy & still get a good dog".You're buying from"backyard breeder"-someone who doesn't do any DVM health screenings but they charge you the same dollars. Several months or years later, this "once cheap Labrador" is now costing you thousands of dollars for DVM expenses due to poor genetics. If you buy from us, the initial cost is higher as we need to recoup money spent doing these additional DVM tests. Here you buy GREAT HEALTH & a GREAT PUP! In Summer 2006, someone bought a lab puppy (not from us!) for~$400. 6 monhs later, this the dog had double hip dysplasia. There is a surgical procedure to correct, but starts at ~$2000 per hip. That's no guarantee. We also receive many DVM referrals-someone put their dog down because of early genetic health problems at 4-5 yo, auto crashes, or just old age. They ask DVM's "where can I find a pup with great genetics so I can enjoy them for their full life?"...Moonlighter Labradors is then called.
All our adults are of the "English Background"- big, blocky heads, big chests, slender waists, & otter tail. All pups are raised in a home environment & well-socialized from birth. By 7 weeks as they age, they are introduced to game bird scents, gunfire, & water retrieving as we also operate a Wisconsin DNR Game Farm. All this-Great Genetics, FC/AFC bloodlines, DVM Genetic Screenings & Certifications, Training, & Socialization produces a puppy not only great for hunting but more importantly, an excellent addition to you and your family.
